About K&K Electrical Service

A licensed electrical contractor working across Indiana and the greater Midwest, on houses and job sites in roughly equal measure.

Who we are

K&K Electrical Service is a licensed electrical contractor based in central Indiana. We do residential service and installation work for homeowners, and we work as an electrical subcontractor on commercial and industrial projects for general contractors and building owners across the Midwest.

Running both sides of that business is a deliberate choice. The commercial work keeps our crews sharp on code, coordination, and equipment most residential outfits never touch. The residential work keeps us in direct contact with the people paying the bill, which is a useful thing for a contractor to stay used to.

How we hire

Licensed electricians and apprentices working under supervision, with ongoing code training as the NEC cycles. Every person who shows up at your house or your site is employed by us — we don't subcontract our own trade out to whoever is available that week.

Licensing and coverage

We're licensed, bonded, and insured, and we carry general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Certificates of insurance naming your entity as additional insured are available on request, as is bonding on projects that require it.

Electrical licensing in Indiana is administered at the municipal and county level rather than statewide, so contractors carry licenses in each jurisdiction where they work. We confirm licensing and permit requirements for your specific jurisdiction before we start, and for out-of-state commercial work we handle reciprocity before we bid.

What we care about

Electrical work is mostly invisible once it's finished. Nobody admires a properly torqued lug or a correctly sized grounding electrode conductor. That's exactly why it's easy to cut corners on, and exactly why it matters who does it.

The standard we hold is simple: the work should be safe when it's covered up, still safe in thirty years, and legible to whoever opens the panel next.

The owners

Kris and Kamal.

Two Indianapolis natives with more than twenty years in the electrical trade between them. They split the business along the lines they're each best at, which is why the scheduling holds and the explanations make sense.

Kris Hutchison, co-owner of K&K Electric

Co-owner · Operations

Kris Hutchison

Kris runs the operational side of K&K — scheduling, crews, permits, inspections, and the parts of a job that have to happen in the right order for the rest of it to work. If a truck is somewhere at 7 a.m., Kris is why.

Born and raised in Indianapolis and a family man first, he came up on the tools and now spends his time making sure the people on them have what they need to do the work properly the first time.

Kamal Thomas, co-owner of K&K Electric

Co-owner · Customer experience

Kamal Thomas

Kamal handles the side of the business you actually talk to — the first call, the walkthrough, the explanation of what's wrong and what it takes to fix it. He's the reason K&K explains things in plain language instead of talking down to people in their own homes.

Also Indianapolis born and raised, and also a family man, he leads how K&K shows up in the community and stays connected with the customers and neighborhoods the company works in.

They founded K&K in 2018 after years working for other people, on the theory that a shop could be run properly without treating either the customer or the crew as an inconvenience. Everything on this site — the written prices, the labeled panels, the phone answered at 2 a.m. — comes from that.

Sparking, burning smell, or no power?

Don't wait for business hours. Shut the breaker off if you can reach it safely, get everyone clear of the area, and call. Someone answers this line at 2 a.m.
